  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and vegetable oil.
  3. Gradually add the egg mixture to the dry ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and knead in the chocolate chips.
  7. Divide the dough into 3 equal pieces and roll each piece into a long rope.
  8. Braid the ropes together and transfer to a greased baking sheet.
  9. Cover the braided dough with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
  10. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  11. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg yolk and water.
  12. Brush the egg wash over the top of the challah and sprinkle with coarse sugar.
  13. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
  14. Allow the challah to cool before serving.
