  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Peel and core the pears, then cut them into thin slices.
  3. Melt the dark chocolate and butter in a heatproof bowl over simmering water.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar and eggs until light and fluffy.
  5. Gradually add the melted chocolate mixture to the egg mixture, whisking continuously.
  6. Sift in the flour, cocoa powder, and salt, then fold gently until combined.
  7. Grease a casserole dish and arrange half of the pear slices on the bottom.
  8. Pour half of the chocolate batter over the pears.
  9. Repeat with the remaining pear slices and chocolate batter.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is set.
  11. Allow the casserole to cool for 10 minutes before serving.
  12. Serve warm with a dusting of cocoa powder or a scoop of vanilla ice cream, if desired.
