Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, ginger, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, and salt. Set aside.

In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and molasses.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing well after each addition.

Roll the dough into 1-inch balls, then roll each ball in granulated sugar. Place the cookies 2 inches apart on an ungreased baking sheet.

Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until set and lightly browned. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
