Chocolate chip cookies were created by accident in 1930 when Ruth Graves Wakefield, owner of the Toll House Inn, ran out of baker’s chocolate and decided to chop up a semisweet chocolate bar instead.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Fold in the dried cherries, dried mixed berries, and semi-sweet chocolate chips.
  7. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto a baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set.
  9. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
