In a large bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.

Add flour, salt, and melted butter to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.

Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.

Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Punch down the dough and divide it into 4 equal parts. Roll each part into a long rope.

Twist each rope into a pretzel shape and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

Brush the pretzels with melted butter and sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese and coarse sea salt on top.

Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.

Remove from the oven and let the pretzels rest for 10 minutes before serving.
