Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a soccer ball-shaped cake pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients alternately with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Once the cake is completely cooled, trim off any uneven parts to create a smooth surface.
  8. In a small bowl, mix together the buttercream frosting and black food coloring gel. Spread a thin layer of black frosting over the entire cake.
  9. Roll out the white fondant and cover the cake with it, smoothing out any wrinkles.
  10. Roll out the black fondant and cut out pentagon and hexagon shapes to resemble a soccer ball. Attach them to the cake using a small amount of water.
  11. Roll out the green fondant and cut out thin strips to create the soccer ball's pattern. Attach them to the cake using a small amount of water.
  12. Allow the cake to rest for 30 minutes before serving.
