Championship Soccer Ball Cake
Ingredients
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a soccer ball-shaped cake pan.
-
In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
-
In a large bowl, cream together the unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
-
Gradually mix in the dry ingredients alternately with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients.
-
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
-
Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
-
Once the cake is completely cooled, trim off any uneven parts to create a smooth surface.
-
In a small bowl, mix together the buttercream frosting and black food coloring gel. Spread a thin layer of black frosting over the entire cake.
-
Roll out the white fondant and cover the cake with it, smoothing out any wrinkles.
-
Roll out the black fondant and cut out pentagon and hexagon shapes to resemble a soccer ball. Attach them to the cake using a small amount of water.
-
Roll out the green fondant and cut out thin strips to create the soccer ball's pattern. Attach them to the cake using a small amount of water.
-
Allow the cake to rest for 30 minutes before serving.
