Caramel squares are also known as caramel slice or millionaire’s shortbread in some regions.

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and line a square baking pan.

In a saucepan, melt the butter, brown sugar, condensed milk, and golden syrup over low heat. Stir until smooth.

Crush the digestive biscuits into small crumbs and add them to the saucepan. Mix well.

Pour the mixture into the prepared baking pan and press it down firmly.

Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown.

Remove from the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes.

Melt the dark chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a saucepan of simmering water.

Pour the melted chocolate over the caramel layer and spread it evenly.

Let it cool for 1 hour or until the chocolate is set.

Cut into squares and serve.
