  2. In a saucepan, melt the butter, brown sugar, sweetened condensed milk, golden syrup, vanilla extract, and salt over medium heat. Stir continuously until the mixture thickens and turns golden brown.
  3. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the rice cereal until well coated.
  4. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish and press it down firmly.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.
  6. Remove from the oven and let it cool completely in the baking dish.
  7. Once cooled, melt the dark chocolate in a microwave or using a double boiler.
  8. Pour the melted chocolate over the caramel bars and spread it evenly.
  9. Allow the chocolate to set for about 2 hours at room temperature or in the refrigerator.
  10. Once set, cut into bars and serve.
