In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add brown sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Cook until the mixture is smooth, stirring constantly.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the butterscotch pudding mix and milk until thickened.

Layer the butterscotch sauce and pudding in individual serving glasses or a large dish.
