Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut the butter into small pieces and add it to the flour mixture. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the buttermilk and sour cherries until just combined. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times to bring it together. Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick circle and cut out scones using a round biscuit cutter. Place the scones on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown. Allow the scones to cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy!
