Breakfast Scones
Scones originated in Scotland and are a popular breakfast or tea-time treat in many English-speaking countries.

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

Cut the cold butter into small cubes and add it to the flour mixture. Use your fingertips or a pastry cutter to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and vanilla extract.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.

Gently fold in the dried cranberries and orange zest.

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it a few times until it comes together.

Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick circle and cut it into 6 wedges.

Place the scones onto the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.

Remove from the oven and let the scones cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes before serving.
