In a separate bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour and salt. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, mixing until a soft dough forms.

Divide the dough into 3 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a rope about 12 inches long.

Braid the ropes together, tucking the ends under to seal.

Place the braided dough on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the top with beaten egg white and sprinkle with colored sugar or sprinkles if desired.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the braided dough for 12 minutes or until golden brown.

Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
