  2. In a small saucepan, combine the black cherries, whiskey, sugar, water, and vanilla extract. Cook over medium heat until the cherries are soft and the liquid has reduced slightly, about 10 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, and salt until well combined.
  4. Pour the cooled cherry mixture into the bottom of six ramekins. Divide the egg mixture equally among the ramekins.
  5. Place the ramekins in a baking dish and fill the dish with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the ramekins.
  6. Carefully transfer the baking dish to the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the custard is set but still slightly jiggly in the center.
  7. Remove the ramekins from the water bath and let cool to room temperature. Then refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight, to allow the custard to fully set.
