In a separate bowl, mix the melted butter, egg, milk, black cherry soda, and vanilla extract.

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.

Fill each cupcake liner about 2/3 full with the batter.

Place a maraschino cherry on top of each cupcake.
