Ganache is a French term that originally referred to a smooth, rich, and velvety chocolate mixture used as a filling, glaze, or frosting.

Chop the dark chocolate into small pieces.

In a saucepan, heat the heavy cream and butter over low heat until it starts to simmer.

Remove from heat and pour the hot cream mixture over the chopped chocolate.

Let it sit for a minute, then stir until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth.

Stir in the vanilla extract.

Let the ganache cool at room temperature for about 10 minutes.

Cover the ganache with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or until it thickens.
