Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a muffin tin or line it with paper liners.

In a medium bowl, mash the ripe bananas with a fork until smooth.

In a separate large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

In another bowl, cream together the unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla extract, and mix well.

Gradually add the mashed bananas to the butter mixture and mix until well combined.

Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.

Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips and chopped walnuts.

Divide the batter evenly among the muffin cups, filling each about 3/4 full.

Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a muffin comes out clean.

Remove from the oven and let the muffins cool in the tin for 10 minutes. Then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
