Banana bread became popular during the Great Depression as a way to use overripe bananas that would otherwise go to waste.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mash the ripe bananas with a fork.
  3. Add vegetable oil, honey, eggs, and vanilla extract to the mashed bananas. Mix well.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine bran flakes, all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, chopped walnuts, and raisins.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the banana mixture, stirring until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the greased loaf pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer the bread to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Slice and serve.
