Boil the potatoes until tender, then mash them.

In a large bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, flour, yeast, sugar, milk, butter, and egg. Mix well until a dough forms.

Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Punch down the dough and knead in the raisins and mixed spice.

Divide the dough into 12 equal portions and shape each portion into a bun.

Place the buns on a greased baking sheet, cover with a clean cloth, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).

Bake the buns for 20 minutes, or until golden brown.

In a small bowl, mix together icing sugar and water to make a glaze.

Remove the buns from the oven and brush them with the glaze while still warm.
