In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

In another bowl, combine milk, egg, vanilla extract, and melted butter.

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.

Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan or pot.

Drop spoonfuls of the dough into the hot oil and fry until golden brown on both sides.

Remove the donuts from the oil and drain on paper towels.

Let the donuts rest for 5 minutes.

Roll the donuts in powdered sugar or decorate with sprinkles.
