Armenian Nazook

Nazook is a traditional Armenian pastry that is often enjoyed with a cup of tea or coffee.

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

Add the sour cream, egg, and vanilla extract. Mix well.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.

Divide the dough into two equal parts and shape each into a rectangle. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Roll out one portion of the dough into a rectangular shape, about 1/8 inch thick.

Spread a thin layer of milk over the rolled out dough.

Sprinkle half of the filling mixture evenly over the dough.

Roll up the dough tightly, starting from one of the long sides.

Cut the rolled dough into 1-inch thick slices and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

Repeat steps 7-11 with the remaining dough and filling.

Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown.

Allow the nazook to cool for a few minutes, then dust with powdered sugar before serving.
