Bread pudding is believed to have originated in the 11th or 12th century as a way to use up stale bread, making it a thrifty and delicious dessert.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

Cut the bread into cubes and place them in a greased baking dish.

In a bowl, mash the ripe bananas and mix in the apple sauce.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon.

Pour the banana mixture and raisins over the bread cubes.

Pour the milk mixture over the bread cubes and gently press down to ensure all the bread is soaked.

Dot the top with small pieces of butter.

Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes or until golden brown and set.

Remove from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before serving.
