  1. In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Beat in the egg until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, ground anise, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, until a dough forms.
  5. Divide the dough in half and shape each half into a log. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  7. Slice the chilled dough logs into 1/4-inch thick rounds and place on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
  9. Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes.
  10. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
