Animal Crackers
Animal crackers were first introduced in the late 19th century and were originally sold as a seasonal item during the Christmas holiday.
This is vegetarian recipe. Dish can be prepared in 60 minutes. Recipe requires some culinary experience (medium difficulty). Number of ingredients: 8.

In a bowl, cream together the butter and sugar.

Add the egg and vanilla extract, and mix well.

In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk.

Mix until a dough forms.

Divide the dough into two equal portions and shape each into a disc.

Wrap the discs in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness.

Use animal-shaped cookie cutters to cut out the crackers.

Place the crackers on the prepared baking sheet.

Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until lightly golden.

Allow the crackers to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
