Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, and salt.

Cut the butter into small pieces and add it to the dry ingredients. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the buttermilk. Stir until the dough comes together.

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it gently a few times to bring it together.

Roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1/2 inch. Use a biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown.
