Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9x9-inch baking pan with parchment paper.

In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter. Add sugar, cocoa powder, and salt. Stir until well combined.

Add the vanilla extract and eggs to the mixture, one at a time, stirring well after each addition.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and baking powder. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.

If desired, fold in the chopped walnuts and chocolate chips.

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.

Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
