  2. Slice the yellow squash, dice the onion, and mince the garlic.
  3. In a large skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic, and sauté until softened.
  4. Add the sliced yellow squash to the skillet and cook for about 5 minutes, until slightly tender.
  5. In a separate saucepan, melt the remaining tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute.
  6. Gradually whisk in the milk and continue cooking until the mixture thickens.
  7. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the cheddar cheese until melted. Season with salt and black pepper.
  8. In a greased casserole dish, layer the cooked yellow squash and pour the cheese sauce over it.
  9. In a small bowl, combine the bread crumbs, parsley, and a pinch of salt. Sprinkle this mixture over the casserole.
