Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.

In a separate large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk. Mix until just combined.

Drop rounded tablespoons of batter onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the tops spring back when lightly touched.

Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

In a small bowl, beat together the marshmallow creme, powdered sugar, softened butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Spread the filling onto the flat side of half of the cooled cookies. Top with the remaining cookies to make sandwiches.
