Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a muffin tin or line with paper liners.

In a large bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.

In a separate bowl, mix together the pumpkin puree, applesauce, brown sugar, vegetable oil, egg, and vanilla extract.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Fold in the chopped walnuts.

Divide the batter evenly among the muffin cups.
