Crackers were originally created as a way to preserve bread dough by baking it twice, resulting in a crispy and long-lasting snack.

In a food processor, pulse together the whole wheat flour, cheddar cheese, unsalted butter, and salt until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Gradually add the ice-cold water, one tablespoon at a time, and pulse until the dough comes together.

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it gently until smooth.

Divide the dough in half and shape each half into a flat disc. Wrap them in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Roll out one disc of dough on a lightly floured surface until it is about 1/8 inch thick.

Use a cookie cutter or a sharp knife to cut the dough into desired shapes.

Transfer the crackers to the prepared baking sheet and prick them with a fork.

Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crackers are golden brown and crispy.
