In a large bowl, combine flour, yeast, cardamom, and salt.

Heat milk until warm and pour into the mixture. Add melted butter, sugar, and beaten egg. Mix well.

Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let it rest in a warm place for 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf.

Place the loaf on a greased baking sheet, cover it again, and let it rest for 30 minutes.

Brush the top of the loaf with water and sprinkle with sliced almonds.

Bake for 35-40 minutes, until golden brown.
