In a mixing bowl, combine the blackberries, 1/2 cup of sugar, and lemon juice. Let it sit for 15 minutes.

In a separate bowl, mix the flour, 1/2 cup of sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add in the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Stir until well combined.

Pour the batter into a greased baking dish.

In a small bowl, mix the remaining 1/2 cup of sugar and cornstarch. Sprinkle this mixture over the blackberries.

Pour the boiling water over the blackberries and batter.
