Cheese fondue originated in Switzerland and is a popular dish in Swiss cuisine. It was traditionally eaten during the winter months as a way to use up leftover cheese and bread.

  1. Grate the Gruyère and Emmental cheeses.
  2. In a bowl, mix the grated cheeses with cornstarch.
  3. Rub the inside of a fondue pot with garlic.
  4. Pour white wine and lemon juice into the pot and heat over low heat.
  5. Gradually add the cheese mixture to the pot, stirring constantly.
  6. Once the cheese has melted and the mixture is smooth, add kirsch, black pepper, and nutmeg.
  7. Continue stirring until the mixture is well combined.
  8. Cut the French bread into bite-sized pieces.
  9. Serve the cheese fondue in the pot and dip the bread pieces into the melted cheese.
  10. Enjoy!
