Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a round cake pan.

In a bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk.

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 30-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Once the cake has cooled, slice it in half horizontally. Spread dulce de leche evenly over the bottom layer, then place the top layer back on.
