Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9-inch baking pan.

In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, unsalted butter, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix until the dough comes together.

Press the dough evenly into the prepared baking pan.

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.

Remove from the oven and sprinkle the semi-sweet chocolate chips over the hot shortbread.
