Cranberries are one of the few fruits native to North America and have been used by Native Americans for centuries.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the flour and 1/2 cup of sugar. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Press the mixture into the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until lightly golden.
  4. In another bowl, mix together the cranberries, remaining 1/2 cup of sugar, orange zest, and orange juice. Spread this mixture over the baked crust.
  5. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs, vanilla extract, and salt. Pour this mixture evenly over the cranberry layer.
  6. Sprinkle the chopped pecans on top. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
  7. Allow the bars to cool completely in the baking dish before cutting into squares. Enjoy!
