Sweet Challah Bread
Challah bread is traditionally eaten on the Jewish Sabbath and holidays.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, vegetable oil, water, and vanilla extract.

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.

Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Punch down the dough and knead in the raisins.

Divide the dough into 3 equal parts and braid them together.

Place the braided dough on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise for another 1 hour.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a small bowl, whisk together the egg yolk and water.

Brush the top of the dough with the egg wash.

Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.

Let the bread cool before serving.
