In a separate large bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake for 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Once the cake has cooled, slice it horizontally into two layers.

Spread whipped cream on the bottom layer and arrange sliced strawberries on top. Place the second layer on top.
