Oatmeal cookies are believed to have originated in Scotland in the early 19th century and were originally called ‘oat cakes’. They were a popular treat among Scottish soldiers and eventually made their way to America, where they became a beloved classic.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a medium bowl, combine the rolled oats, all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.

In a separate large bowl, mix together the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until well combined. Add the egg and vanilla extract, and mix until smooth.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Fold in the raisins and chopped walnuts.

Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Flatten each cookie slightly with the back of a spoon.

Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
