Ingredients
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
-
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
-
Cut the butter into small pieces and add it to the dry ingredients. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
-
In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and vanilla extract.
-
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
-
If desired, fold in any optional add-ins.
-
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times to bring it together.
-
Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick circle.
-
Use a round biscuit cutter to cut out scones from the dough. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
-
Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown.
-
Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy!
