Saltine toffee is also known as ‘Christmas crack’ due to its popularity as a holiday treat.

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and grease with cooking spray.
  2. Arrange saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
  3. In a saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar over medium heat. Bring to a boil and let it boil for 3 minutes, stirring constantly.
  4. Pour the hot butter mixture over the saltine crackers, spreading it evenly.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 5 minutes.
  6. Remove from the oven and sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the hot toffee.
  7. Let it sit for a few minutes until the chocolate chips are softened, then spread the melted chocolate evenly over the toffee with a spatula.
  8. Optional: Sprinkle chopped nuts over the melted chocolate.
  9. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow the toffee to set.
  10. Once set, break into pieces and serve.
