Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch square baking pan.

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, ginger, cinnamon, baking soda, and salt.

In a separate bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, then stir in the molasses.

Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients. Stir in the hot water until well combined.

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

While the gingerbread is still warm, spread the orange marmalade over the top. Allow the gingerbread to cool completely before serving.
