  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate large bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, red food coloring, and vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk. Mix until just combined.
  5. Drop rounded tablespoons of batter onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Flatten each mound slightly with the back of a spoon.
