  2. In a separate large bowl, cream together the granulated sugar and softened butter until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg yolk and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and mix until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, mixing until a dough forms.
  5. Divide the dough in half and shape each half into a disk. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  7. On a lightly floured surface, roll out one disk of dough to 1/8-inch (3mm) thickness.
  8. Using a cookie cutter, cut out an equal number of rounds and stars from the rolled out dough.
