Penny’s Apple-Date Scones
Scones originated in Scotland and are a popular treat in British afternoon tea. They are typically served with clotted cream and jam.

Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.

Cut the butter into small cubes and add it to the flour mixture. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to rub the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Stir in the granulated sugar.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, vanilla extract, and milk.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.

Gently fold in the diced apple and chopped dates.

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it a few times until it comes together.

Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick circle and cut it into 8 wedges.

Place the scones on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown.
