Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 6-inch round cake pans.
-
Peel and core the pears, then slice them into thin wedges.
-
In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the brown sugar, ground ginger, ground cinnamon, and ground cloves. Stir until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is smooth.
-
Divide the mixture between the prepared cake pans, spreading it evenly on the bottom.
-
Arrange the pear slices on top of the sugar mixture in a decorative pattern.
-
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, ground ginger, ground cinnamon, and ground cloves.
-
In a separate bowl, cream together the unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and molasses, mixing well.
-
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
-
Divide the gingerbread batter between the two cake pans, spreading it evenly over the pears.
-
Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
-
Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes.
-
Carefully invert the cakes onto serving plates, allowing the pear topping to fall onto the cakes.
-
Serve warm and enjoy!
