  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, ground ginger, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just blended.
  4. Peel, core, and thinly slice the pears. Arrange the pear slices in a single layer on the bottom of the prepared cake pan.
