Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake pan with paper liners.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.

Gradually mix in the dry ingredients alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients.

Divide the batter into separate bowls and add a few drops of food coloring to each bowl, mixing until well combined.

Spoon the different colored batters into the cupcake liners, filling each about 2/3 full.

Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Allow the cupcakes to cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Once the cupcakes are cool, frost them with buttercream frosting and decorate with sprinkles.

Let the frosting set for 30 minutes before serving.
