Onion rings were first introduced in the United States in the early 20th century and became popular as a side dish or snack.

Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Slice the onions into 1/2-inch thick rings and separate them.

In a shallow bowl, combine the flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.

In another shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk.

Dip each onion ring into the flour mixture, then into the egg mixture, and then back into the flour mixture.

Place the coated onion rings on the prepared baking sheet.

Lightly spray the onion rings with cooking spray.

Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes.

Flip the onion rings over and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.

Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
