Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In another bowl, mix together the flour and salt. Gradually add this mixture to the yeast mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Meanwhile, heat the olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and cook until caramelized.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  7. Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 12 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball.
  8. Flatten each ball and place a spoonful of caramelized onions in the center. Fold the edges over the filling and pinch to seal, forming a crescent shape.
  9. Arrange the crescent rolls on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with beaten egg and sprinkle with garlic powder and dried thyme.
  10. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. Remove from the oven and let the rolls cool for a few minutes before serving.
