  3. In a separate large bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth.
  4. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing well after each addition.
  6. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  7. Drop rounded spoonfuls of dough onto ungreased baking sheets.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
  9. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer them to wire racks to cool completely.
